Define what comes off and what goes back on
Identify the roof sections you want to convert, including garages, dormers and additions. Describe earlier repairs or changes to the building. A conversion quote should make removal and disposal clear, then explain the planned preparation and new covering. Check whether every roof section is included so you can compare proposals on the same basis.
Make re-sheeting part of the conversation
Our cedar-to-shingle work has included re-sheeting after the shakes were removed. Your quote should describe the planned decking work and how it relates to the selected shingles. Some existing conditions become visible only during removal. Agree how findings will be documented, how changes will be priced and who approves additional work before it proceeds.
Choose shingles with the roof shape in mind
Bring the look you prefer, then discuss whether the selected shingles suit the slope, deck and individual roof sections. A lower addition may need a different approach from the main pitched roof. Consider underlay, edges, starter and ridge materials, ventilation and flashings together. Review colour samples alongside the siding and trim, and keep the product selection with your project records.
Prepare for removal around an occupied home
Ask how removal, material delivery and waste collection will be arranged around the property. Discuss parking, gardens, decks, pets and access to the entrances you use each day. Tell us if tenants or other trades need notice. Scheduling should account for the agreed work and suitable conditions. Confirm your project contact and how findings or changes will be communicated.
